I know what it feels like to desperately need a lawyer and be rejected multiple times. Unless there's a ton of money on the table, often lawyers will pass, we found out the hard way - but I'm grateful that you had a great guy in your corner. Kudos.
Congratulations. I like to think everything happens for a reason. Maybe your life needed to be steered in a different direction to help you with something in the future. Regardless, I'm sure you learned a lot, and I hope it brings positive things your way. I enjoy reading about your experiences of Aviation in Alaska and spent two years doing similar things myself and appreciate your perspective on their unique safety culture. Keep your head up and continue to let your values guide you.
Thanks, Christa and yes - my grandmother always said "when one door closes, another opens". (We would joke that sometimes it's just a window that opens but the message was the same!)
Your first lawsuit is always the worst. Now you know what to expect. Next thing we know you'll be arguing cases in front of the Supreme Court. Keep writing.
Congratulations on making it through the grinder almost entirely intact. I’m very sorry that AIN took this tack. Bring a freelancer in any capacity is incredibly nerve wracking; they do everything they can to squeeze the most out of you and give as little back as possible, and then less.
We all don’t get superheroes, so you’re doubly fortunate! It’s great to know that there are still good people practicing law. Keep writing. Or, use your experience and write up a script for Netflix, based on actual events, and just make up the dramatic elements required by the industry. The Insider (Russel Crowe) is a good model :)
I enjoy your writing and encourage you to keep it up. You are a hero. I worked as a pilot in Alaska and Cargo part 135, and I’m glad someone is finally exposing the truth. Thank you.
Good on you for following through and being a professional and thorough journalist.
Your situation reminds me of the issues that an Australian independent aviation journalist had earlier this century with our flag carrier and others - Ben Sandilands from Plane Talking - again, thorough, factual reporting got him into some shitty situations but professionalism got him through - though I suspect the mental toll was significant.
Keep up your great work. I really enjoy seeing your updates on BlueSky
Thanks so much for reading - because of your comment, I'm reading over Ben Sandiland's article archive right now. He seems to have had an impressive career.
I am SO GLAD you won.

It's so frustrating - you need a lawyer but no one wants to be hired by you. They just all assume you won't pay. But yes...HUGE relief right now.

I'll figure it out. :)

Ha! Thanks, Ralph!

Thank you so much, Barry - your kind words mean a lot. :)
WOOOOO!
I'm so very sorry that you went through this but equally so thrilled you won.
